Requirements
The minimum height requirement is 2.2m. This is the measurement when stood in the loft taken from the ceiling joists up to the apex / ridge.
Velux Conversions are a popular choice which involves the installation of velux roof windows which fit flush with the roof & planning permission is not normally required.
Dormer Conversions create both additional internal space and headroom with the construction of either a flat or pitched roof dormer. French doors and wrought iron Balustrades in the dormer has become increasingly popular.
Due to the new Planning Laws, dormers at the rear of the house may not need planning permission
Mansard Conversions especially seen in London area are commonly built by raising the gable walls either side of your roof to make the profile for the mansard and then creating the timber frame
Truss Roof Conversions. This type of roof can be fully converted. It is made up of a pre formed wooden rafter system. This needs to be strengthened with a combination of steel and Timber beams and stud supports before we cut through the truss roof rafters. A Truss roof is normally found in newer houses.
